What the data says

CBETH

cbETH is Coinbase Wrapped Staked ETH — a liquid staking receipt where Coinbase runs the validators, the wrapper accrues staking yield as a rising exchange rate against ETH, and the custodian is a public company. The contract 0x2ae3f1ec7f1f5012cfeab0185bfc7aa3cf0dec22 is the canonical Base deployment; our October 9, 2026 read shows $2.8 million of tracked pool liquidity, with its deepest venues on Base's native DEXes.

The honest framing: cbETH is centralized by design — a single regulated issuer who can, and legally must be able to, freeze the contract. That is a feature if you want a compliance-clean staking receipt and a bug if you measure decentralization. The other real note: cbETH's price is not ETH's price — it trades on its own wrapper rate, and secondary-market discounts have opened in stress before.

SOL

Wrapped SOL is the one token on this site that is barely a token at all. SOL itself — the coin that pays for every transaction on Solana — is not an SPL token, so any program that expects the SPL standard works with this wrapper instead: one wSOL always represents one SOL, held in a token account you can unwrap back to native SOL at any moment. When a DEX route, a lending pool, or a liquidity pair says "SOL," this mint — So11111111111111111111111111111111111111112 — is almost always what it means under the hood.

The safety read here is about as clean as the format allows, and for a structural reason rather than a flattering one. As of the October 6, 2026 snapshot both the mint authority and the freeze authority read revoked: nobody can print unbacked wSOL, and nobody can freeze a wallet's balance. That isn't a team making good choices — it's baked into how the wrapper works, which is exactly why wrapped SOL is the reference point other tokens get measured against. The snapshot puts roughly 3.82 million holders on the mint and about $960 million of tracked liquidity, numbers no ordinary SPL token approaches.

FAQ

Which is bigger, CBETH or SOL?

By tracked market cap: CBETH (Base) measures $477.29M and SOL (Solana) measures $70.79B — dated snapshots, not a live feed.

Which is safer, CBETH or SOL?

On the contract checks we publish: CBETH (Base) grades B and SOL (Solana) grades A. A grade is a structural check on the contract, not a promise about the asset.

How have CBETH and SOL performed over the shared window?

Between 2026-09-14 and 2026-10-16T21:15:32, the measured snapshots show CBETH at −3.56% and SOL at +1.02%.

The grade column is the one CMC's compare page cannot print — our grade is computed from the contract itself (mint/freeze authority, liquidity, holder concentration). Changes are measured over the shared window stated on the chart, 2026-09-14→2026-10-16T21:15:32; a token with fewer measured points measures a shorter span inside it.
