What the data says about USDT

USDT is the oldest and largest dollar token on the internet — Tether's dollar, the reserve currency of offshore crypto trading since 2014, and the settlement asset most of the industry's volume clears in. The contract at 0xdac17f958d2ee523a2206206994597c13d831ec7 is the canonical Ethereum deployment; our October 9, 2026 snapshot reads $433.7 million of tracked pool liquidity, which is only what our sampler sees — USDT's real depth spans dozens of venues and most of it sits in order books and OTC desks our pool read does not enumerate.

The honest complications are the well-known ones. Tether's attestations are not a full audit, its reserves have historically included things beyond cash, and the contract itself retains freeze and blacklist controls — a stablecoin where the issuer can seize a balance is a different instrument than one that cannot.
